New Uses for Old Things: Tissue Boxes

I. Am. A. Genius.  I was looking for ways to corral my plastic bag situation.  I collect bags.  I have tons of them.  I don't have it in me to throw them away, especially since they cost me money.  And, I mostly feel ashamed when I forget my reusable bags in the car, and have to buy another one.  AND, I don't want them to end up in a landfill, since our city doesn't recycle all plastic bags.  AND, I want to try weaving with them like I saw at that craft fair.  AND, I'm a bit of hoarder of these things.

ANYWAYS, I needed somewhere to hold them because D was threatening to throw them away.  So I pulled out some tissue boxes from the trash, and voila! plastic bag holders, that take up so little space under the sink it is not even a problem anymore.

You can pull them out one at a time too.  So handy.  And now I'm re-using two things from the bin.   I think I might decorate my bag boxes too.  That sounds like something I would do.

Like I said, I'm a genius.  And modest, it would seem.

Caught the crochet bug

Since I finished my ripple stitch throw (link) I have been thinking of nothing else other than making lovely cushions, with great colors.  So, I had to go and get a few of skeins of yarn in lovely colors to start hooking again! 

I took a long break from crocheting when I became a good enough knitter to make anything I wanted.  It took a while to become a proficient knitter, it was a while before I caught the crochet bug.  But, I have it now!  And with all these colors, I am going to make a pillow for my couch.  I went to an outlet store in town and got the yarn for 4 dollars a ball, such a deal! 

I usually don't use acrylic yarns, but I think for housewares type projects, I think it will make more sense, especially since I wash pillow cases way more than anything else. 

I can't wait to see how my hooking projects turn out! 

From the Antiques Market

Yesterday, my partner and I went to the Aberfoyle Antiques Market.  I had never been before, it was great!  Besides getting the worst sunburn I've ever had(!) I also picked up these great wooden crates and these printing press stamps.   The stamps are so cool, they come from a 1930's printing press (which wasn't for sale).  They are solid metal, and super heavy.  I'm going to use the crates to organize my growing collection of epherma, and paints.  I'm not sure what I'll use the stamps for yet.  D was really sweet when we bought them, he was like, "you could use those stamps in your mixed media!"
